Aart's Biography

I personally perform all the activities necessary to complete my work. I paint primarily on masonite board, which I prepare by sanding, followed by a coat of gesso. I repeat this process three times. The backside is coated with a sealer.

I am a landscape painter. The ideas I get for a painting take root from my childhood memories of the Dutch countryside and city life. Therefore none of my paintings are actual locations of specific places, but merely the creation of a feeling or mood, slightly embellished or over dramatized from reality.

I feel my style of painting is more spontaneous than pre-planned and leans more toward impressionism than realism.
