Puanani's work is in homes from Pennsylvania to
Hawaii and through out Colorado.
From columbine and cowboys to tropical treasures, versatile artist Puanani Warnke creates representational
pieces in batik, a resist method of dyeing fabric. Birds of paradise, torch ginger, plumeria, lionfish and
marine life reflect her upbringing in Hawaii. Her Hawaiian heritage has been captured in several series
of paintings and batiks.
She was "transplanted" to the mainland over thirty years ago to attend college. Puanani is a graduate of
the Herron School of Art of Indiana University. She has taught art in metro Denver public schools.
She continues as an art educator at Columbine High School encouraging and developing young artists as
well as working on her own pieces during the summers. She is an award-winning artist and has had several
one-woman shows.
Although batik is her major medium, Pua also works in oils, watercolors, pastels and clay. "That's what
happens when you teach. I enjoy most mediums; but my passions are batik and clay. Both are time consuming
and "messy"."
"I work representationally and usually in a series. Results can vary widely with batik as it has a mind
of its own. Each piece is unique. My subject matter has become more Colorado and western in the past few
years, although I continue to do tropicals for my Hawaiian clients and shows."
All of my framed pieces are behind conservation glass or plexiglass to protect them from U.V. rays.
Please do not display in direct sun light.
Matted pieces should be framed with conservation glass or plexiglass (U.V. glass) to protect the pieces
from sun damage.
